Fluently Asked Questions
It's not a fast food joint at a spaceport, it's not a country inn, and it's not even what the locals would call an inn. It's just a hovel built against a cave, but the owner is a part of whatever this underground movement is. You've been introduced to him, Jay Scottsmart, and you have the impression that he was once a soldier of some sort. Now he gets along with the help of two crutches and a wooden leg.
"We shall rest here for tonight," the Grandfather tells you. "And, finally -"
(He is interrupted by Mr Scottsmart's delivery of the main course, "skjelte." Everybody gimme a LvL1 SR and I'll roll against you as if I was actually impartial or something.)
"And finally," Grandfather continues as he adjusts his bib, "you may have questions. We now have time to answer them. Are there questions?"

(Made L1 whatever SR)
ReplyDelete'What did that meat do when it was alive,' asks Emma, trying not to hyper-ventilate. 'It didn't by any sad chane take your leg, did it? I wouldn't want to go all cannibal on you.'
"A sheep take my leg?!! HAR-har-har-har..." laughs Jay all the way to his fireplace, where he takes the covered pan off the hook and places it under his bunk.
ReplyDelete[Sorry no posts over the weekend - Beer & Pretzels can do that to a man!]
ReplyDelete(Rolled 16 (4 + 4, 5 + 3) so made any L1 SR, I think)
L'wisz takes his place at table all the while licking his lips.
"Not wishing to sound too ungrateful but... Who are you people? Where are we? And more importantly, where's my ship?"
((I use a busted hard drive for my excuse this weekend. I have more excuses, but I think I should use that one.))
ReplyDelete((Still need SR each from the other two, and ask if Her Doktor will do or say anything. We allow Lewis the three questions, because he seems to bark rapidly, quite unlike the dwarves of fantasy. Correct me if I'm wrong, Sid, but does he tend to think of others as recruits, if not green recruits?))
(Doktor Von Kramm rolls 4,4,1,1,2,6 = 18 which should clear level one)
ReplyDeleteHerr Doktor is grateful for the profferred food, and says "Danke shoern".
He is still worried about his concussion and taking things slowly and carefully.
[L'wisz thinks of everybody else as incompetent, so like they are recruits Iguess]
ReplyDelete"My goodness gracious! So many questions all at once!? One at a time!" The old man pauses to catch his breath. ((Those who made their SRs on IQ realize that they saw Jay Scottsmart deliver and set down the main course without using his hands, which are filled with crutches.)) "First. You are in Here. My granddaughter is Eolthala, and her rune is the rune of Truth, and she is studying the healing arts. And your ship is buried under a hill of dung so the Watchers will not sight it. They have been looking for you also.
ReplyDelete"I have a question as well. How is it that you speak --
"Upon my word, Hair Doctor (he has no idea of Germanic languages and this is what he heard the group call Herr Doktor) - are you all right??!"
Emma wonders what it will be like to pilot a dung covered ship as this was not in her training course and waits to see if the Doktor will expire...
ReplyDeleteL'wisz grumbles under his breath, "That idiot Hecton has crashed my ship into a mountain of animal excrecia! If he isn't dead already, he soon will be!"
ReplyDelete((Herr Doktor looks extremely pale and is perspiring freely. He mumbles something about redundancy failsafes, sabotage, and fuel cells. "..can't fail..perfect machinery.." Though he is saying this in a Germanic language, everyone understands his words - even while realizing he is speaking a language they don't know.))
ReplyDelete"As I was saying," the grandfather continues, "How is it that you speak our language?"
Herr Doktor realizes that he needs to eat, and begins to chow down on what is offered him. "I am grateful for the food," says the Doktor between mouthfuls. "I need -er- carbs, sugars, now, to recharge my batteries. My blood sugars are low." He continues to eat. "I do not know about languages, but I seem to have paranormal sensory perceptions now.
ReplyDeleteI am grateful to you for all you have done for us so far. One question though. Did the Captain of the ship survive the landing?"
He sighs. Eolthala walks towards a dark corner and you can hear her sob. "So - that was your captain? Eolthala worked with him with all her might. I suspect she entered the Dreamquest with him, but was unable to bring him back. She hasn't spoken of it."
ReplyDeleteHe brightens. "Ah, but we did save your ship spirit and encased him in a power gem. I was about to tell you before -"
((Herr Doktor, make a LvL2 SR.))
((Everyone else: Make a LvL3 SR.))
ReplyDelete((Rolled 17 - 5 + 5, 5 + 2) Was that enough? L3SR on which attribute?)
ReplyDeleteOn hearing that the ship is safe L'wisz visibly brightens. "Can I get to see her and check her over? And, what do you mean by 'ship spirit'?"
((As Sid has noticed, I either was cheating gregariously or else forgot that this would be a SR on IQ for everyone. Herr Doktor gets the SR one level easier for a weird reason.
ReplyDelete((Of course if a PLAYER deduces why the SR is called for (at this moment) please oh please feel free to role play an immediate action.
((Don't let my cheating spoil your fun.))
((New turn on Friday, during normal hours. The Cox couple are still living vampire shift hours. That gives everyone around six or seven hours before the next turn. Get your moves locked in - and yes, this is the equivalent of the GM getting "that look" on his or her face and checking the flavor text notes.))
ReplyDelete(Herr Doktor rolls 4+3 = 7 on IQ of 18 = 25: just made it. He is beginning to suspect that his concussion was not as severe as he first thought, or the lady's ministrations are amazingly effective treatment for this kind of injury. He continues to eat to get his blood sugar up, and removes the trank patch from his flesh forearm. He checks his neural connections with his cyber arm and eye to see if there is any function possible there as of yet.)
ReplyDeleteEmma really didn't notice much. She strolls about, poking into things, things she can eat, things she can steal, things she can do damage with.
ReplyDelete((Mark, since Emma is distracted, would you please mad a 3rd LvL SR on IQ for her, then a 2d LvL SR on LUCK? If EITHER of those are failed, please to make a 5th LvL SR on WIZARDRY?))
ReplyDelete((Roy, would you make a 2d LvL SR on LUCK for Herr Doktor? He's busy listening to his rotors and routers and seems a bit distracted.))
ReplyDeleteDoktor Von Kramm comments: "I beg your pardon, mein herr, but last time a spirit gem was used here, it seemed to have serious adverse impact on my cybernetic eye and arm. Is that possible? If so, what can be done to prevent the loss of my equipment functions here? I am pretty much a cripple without my appendages."
ReplyDeleteOn luck of ten HDVK needed to roll 15 to make level 2 SR. He rolled 3,4 = 7 - missed it by 8
ReplyDelete"Ah," breathes the old man with a puzzled look. "Of course. Ah... What's a psy-ber kinetic?"
ReplyDelete"It probably means he's allergic to magic, you old dolt " The voice comes from Scottsmart, reclining in his huge rocking chair."Why don't you give him some Wizardry Blockage; his disbelief is strong."
"Oh. Ohhhhh, " says a suddenly saddened Grandfather. He digs inside his cloud, then in his jerkin and robe.
"I must beg your indulgence, sir," says HDVK. "Your science is unfamiliar to me. I am fascinated by things that I do not understand, especially when they produce extraordinary results. I am anxious to learn more about your 'spirits' and 'magic'. I am sure that there is a logical explanation, and a willing student can learn this sort of thing if they keep an open mind."
